Born in Cheltenham, and brought up in Gloucestershire, Adam spent the early part of his career working in agriculture, gaining experience in agri-contracting and the arable, mixed and dairy sectors of the industry.
During this period, he also spent time working within the range of businesses that his Father had established which included Special Educational Needs Transport for a County Council and an Events Management Company that established and ran the Gloucestershire County Show.
Following a return to academic study when he was 20, Adam progressed to his first management position within the corporate world with Pickfords Removals (Then part of the National Freight Consortium), then working for Sita, the large Municipal Contracting Company (Now known as Suez).
As Adam continued to develop and consolidate his business and operational management experience he felt the call of community focused work and joined the Gloucestershire Rural Community Council where he developed and ran the JumpStart Project, a Wheels to Work scheme supporting unemployed people in rural areas seeking access to work and training. He then designed, fundraised and set up the Gloucestershire Minibus Scheme on behalf of Gloucestershire County Council and its Rural Transport Partnership, before moving to the British Lung Foundation, where he became South West Regional Manager.
With an interest in politics since before he was able to vote, 2003 saw Adam take up his first ‘elected’ role as a Councillor, representing the Priors Park area on Tewkesbury Town Council.
During his 4-year tenure, Adam Chaired the Council’s Severn Ham Committee, responsible for the traditionally managed 175 acre SSSI ham meadow, which is bordered by the River Avon and River Severn.
In 2004, Adam took the decision to set up his own Company, winning a large contract with the Northcliffe Group, part of DMGT, to provide distribution for the Gloucestershire Echo and Gloucester Citizen, along with the Company’s other local newspaper Titles.
One of Adam’s key aims in business was to create the type of working environment in which he had always wanted to work himself. His core business was committed to achieving Investors in People Accreditation before it began trading and did so within 18 months. It was also committed to the Two Ticks for Disability Scheme and employed disabled staff members within frontline customer facing roles.
Since setting up his first company, Adam has developed a number of different businesses spanning removals and storage, local produce, e-commerce, local news and worked as business advisor supporting a range of other start-up and existing businesses owned and managed by other people. He has also tutored business planning to final year undergraduates at the University of Gloucestershire Business School.
In 2007, Adam was successful in winning a seat to represent the Ashchurch with Walton Cardiff Ward on Tewkesbury Borough Council.
Over two terms, he developed an invaluable insight into the full range of responsibilities covered by District Level Authorities and their relationship with Central Government and the Public Sector.
As a Councillor, he represented constituents on a range of issues which included substantial Planning matters, Housing and Environment.
With a particular interest in Licensing, Adam was elected Vice-Chair of the Committee during his first term, becoming and being re-elected Chair of the Committee for the full 4 years of his second.
In 2008, Adam joined the newly established Aschurch Rural Parish Council as a founding Member for a 3-year term, in order to support the new Council in his role as the local Borough Councillor.
Adam’s last Elected Term ended at Tewkesbury Borough Council in May 2015.
